My Why …

I can’t overemphasize having a detailed, emotional connection to your driving force – your Why! I’m regularly asked how to stay focused and motivated, when it feels impossible to keep fighting. Let me be honest – without a strong Why, you WILL quit! The majority stop, not because of a lack of talent or correct information at their finger tips, but because they didn’t have a powerful enough connection to why they were doing what they were doing.

Fame, fortune, and all the “outside stuff” will fade after a certain amount of pain and struggle hit you! Make your Why bigger than yourself – more important than personal glory. How would your success affect others? Who’s lives are changed because of your hard work and dedication?

I’ve said it many times, and I’ll continue to say it: My Why is my daughter! I wake up before the sun for her – not for her college fund, big house, or car she’ll own … but rather, for the mentality I’m helping create! Whatever she wants, she can have, IF she’s willing to put in the hours and sacrifice her comfort zone! My life revolves around her learned 1% Mindset. I want her to understand, and know deep in her core, that it’s perfectly o.k. to think differently, to want more than most, and to believe that “realistic” is THEIR word!

This quick VIDEO is just the beginning of our growth together!

The 1% Answer …

This text was sent to me by a Division 1 All-American golfer I’m humbled to work with. I’m posting it because, instead of feeling sorry for himself after a poor final round, he wanted to learn how to approach it, mentally. While most players would focus on “what if,” he wanted to know NOW WHAT?

I also posted my answer below.

Know Why You Do What You Do

Why are you doing what you’re doing? It’s easy to get lost in your day-to-day grind, and neglect that question. The “hard work” you’re putting in is irrelevant if you don’t live in this answer 25/8, 366 – every day, all day, immersed in it … or, at the very least, trying to figure it out!

Your driving force automatically creates confidence, motivation, and passion towards your every day work, and will never allow you to stop. When you’re emotionally connected to your Why, there isn’t an obstacle strong enough to make you quit. The mistake most people make is getting immersed in the work to achieve the dream, ignoring (or not knowing) their reason behind it all.

When I’m tired, not feeling 100%, or frustrated … all I have to do is focus on my two emotional driving forces, and I instantly become mentally super-human again. Below are mine. What’s yours?

Your Pain Is Temporary …

This is a text a student sent me, frustrated with the beginning of his professional athletic career. He’s realizing the struggle and pain needed to endure isn’t a dream – it’s real, and is what separates the ones who make it from the ones who talk about what if …

Whatever your situation, know that your struggle is temporary, but it will test your commitment and dedication to the process!

Representing Team USA

StoryCummingsBEAST

Meet Story Cummings – center for Team USA!

This kid is a beast, and is totally immersed in the 1% Lifestyle. No one will out work him – there’s no doubt we’ll be reading about him in the future, playing in a huge collegiate program.

Tweet him @StroyCummings. Here’s an example of his mentality: “When everything on your body hurts, but all you can think about is grinding harder, you’re in the right place.”

BOOM!

The 1% Family Leading The Way …

JackPerryfrombehind

Huge congratulations to 1% Family member and Northwestern’s #1 golfer, Jack Perry, for being named All American!!

His physical talent has never been questioned, but he’s now committed to the 1% Lifestyle and the sacrifices needed to take it past “really good” status – he’s now reached “great,” but isn’t satisfied. In a recent text, he said, “I was named All American, which is cool, but I WILL do better!” THAT’S the 1% Mindset – never settling!

His long term guarantees include winning multiple Majors on the PGA Tour. He’s not just hoping to make it on Tour, he wants to break records. Most would say that’s too high of an expectation … we say it’s already done … all that’s left is to show the world what it looks like!

Pay Full Price …

Coupons

Too many people are looking for a break, a discount, or shortcut.

There aren’t any coupons on your way to the top – you must pay full price. Sacrifice the max, punch fear in the face as hard as you can, and stare your future in the eyes. What WILL you achieve?

NO EXCUSES!

I Guarantee You'll Feel Different

Guarantee

DO THIS:

Replace “goal” with guarantee! Instead of saying, “My goal is …” Make your focus, “I guarantee (this) will happen.”

Goal leaves wiggle-room for quit – the word has been used so often by so many, it doesn’t emotionally resonate as powerfully as in the past. When you write out your weekly, monthly, or yearly guarantees, there’s a completely different emotional reaction that takes place. The key to achieving anything is being emotionally connected. There was a day where “my goal is …” did the job, but today isn’t that day any longer.

Try something new – step away from the majority and attach yourself to fearlessness. If you want what they don’t have … you gotta do what they won’t do!

This was sent to me from Marie – her 1% Success Story. She is a true inspiration!

“My success story will never end because every day I aim to reach higher, work harder, push myself and prove to myself that I CAN do it.I started my weight loss journey Nov 2011… by January 2012 I ran a 5K…August 2012 I completed my very first Triathlon..November 2013 I got serious about weight training and clean eating..April 2013 I hit 50lbs loss and I am now teaching an outdoor fitness boot camp, running 5k’s like it’s nobody’s business and helping others achieve their goals! I don’t have a plan of ” what I will be doing or when” but I do know that this is a lifestyle not a diet and there’s no giving up.My story is like so many others but what makes me different is that I push and push until I have nothing left to give, because if you really want it you will do the hard work to achieve your goals! I am that 1%.”
