Do What You Have To Do …

THIS is what separates the 1% from the 99%!

A student and I were trying to synch our schedules for our next Skype, but were having difficulties doing so. Finally, we decided on early morning. He lives on the East coast, which is three hours ahead of me. His availability was 7:00 am, which meant a 4:00 am Skype for me! Normally, I’m up at 4:00, but this would be too late for our session … so there was only one choice: 3:30 am wake up!

If you want to reach a level 10, you have no choice but to sacrifice at a level 10. The 99% will only sacrifice what feels comfortable, but rarely gives more. Look at yourself in the mirror, and get honest – are you giving enough? Are you living in your comfort zone? Is your Why strong enough? Does it push you to do what the 99% can’t? Make a DECISION today!

In order to have what the majority don’t … you gotta do what the majority won’t.

OHoops Coach Ryan Sacrificing …

This was OHoopsCoachRyan post on Twitter yesterday, and what he’s doing during our #1PercentChallenge: “If 1% of people are up at 4 am, what % of people are up until 2 am doin work?”
He’s killing it on the court and in the gym, proving that excuses don’t exist in his world, and elite level success can only come from sacrifice, sweat, and pain! You can also find Ryan at OHoopsTraining – dude’s a beast. He’s the true definition of the #1PercentMindset!

The Time Is NOW

What are you waiting for? Your opportunity WILL run out if you don’t seize it now! The 99% are waiting for someone to hand it to them, while YOU, the 1%, are willing to take it.

TAKE IT!

Instant Mindset Change …

I love sharing texts, because it gives an insight to others’ mindset, both good and bad, allowing you to learn something from how they’re thinking. This one came from a Division 1 college beach volleyball player I’ve recently began working with. In the past, she fell victim to “big moments,” only because she was wasn’t clear on the opportunity that moment played in defining her future – she wasn’t excited for that specific opportunity. Her physical talent was off the charts, but when the game was on the line, all she concentrated on was, “what if I screw it up?”

The missing link I find with the majority of athletes is their lack of future vision – they train today, hoping the future will somehow manifest into greatness. Instead, I make it a priority to work backwards from WHAT THEY WILL BECOME, to today’s action, giving them purpose and emotionally connecting them to a bigger reason.

Before we talked, she had amazing physical talent, but played in fear. She often became emotionally overwhelmed during big games, trying to prove she belonged. Her confidence wained, making it impossible for her to perform at her best. She texted me this the day after our first hour session together – she CHOSE future over fear!

Fear – Run Or Fight?

We all have fear – we’re human, not robots. It can drive you to excellence, but you must first stand up to it and be ready to fight. I grew up afraid of failure and anything that was uncomfortable or unfamiliar, but made a conscious decision as an adult to fight back.

When will you get sick of allowing fear to dominate your decisions? Choose NOW … no more!

100% Attitude

I love this! Your “reality” begins and ends with your attitude – how you perceive each situation IS your reality. Your attitude isn’t something that controls you, as many believe … you’re the master! Constructing the attitude that best serves your life is a decision sparked by your Why – your driving force.

What attitude do you need right now to change your situation?

ATTITUDE

The World Will Soon Hear From Him …

Yesterday was the practice round of the Jr. World Championships at Torrey Pines. I was there with a student, Alex Marsh, who qualified from the UK. As the hundreds of kids from all over the world packed the putting greens and driving range, it was obvious this wasn’t your normal local event. There were flags from every corner of the globe, reminding competitors it was time to embrace the challenge or get lost in it’s enormity.

Alex did an amazing job remaining aggressive and continuing to attacking fearlessly. He’s committed to playing regret-free, leaving nothing on the table, mentally or physically. While many of the competitors may try to protect and “hope not to play poorly,” Alex will play like an athlete, think like an athlete … BE an athlete.

Today’s the first round of the Championships, but to Alex, is simply an opportunity to challenge himself; to stretch his comfort zone. He’s driven by what the majority have told him couldn’t be accomplish. They said he wouldn’t make it to the Jr. Worlds … he proved them wrong. This is only the beginning!
